Premium building for homes that already have character

Guildford & Godalming Construction Limited is a local practice built around period houses: the brick, the roof line, the garden and the way a family actually lives. We do not bolt on a room and leave. We plan the structure, the trades and the finish so the new work belongs to the house.

Andy and Martin have each spent more than three decades on site. Together they lead groundworks, brickwork, roofing, carpentry and plumbing as one coordinated team — from the first trench to the last snag.

Whether you are opening a rear wall in Godalming, lifting a roof in Guildford, or renewing a tired Victorian terrace further into Surrey, the same principles apply: listen carefully, protect the fabric of the building, and finish every visible edge as carefully as the parts you never see.

That is why homeowners stay with us from the first sketch through snagging — and why neighbours often ask who built the extension next door.

Why homeowners choose us

What sets this practice apart

Decades of trade knowledge, one coordinated team, and a genuine pride in period property work across Surrey and beyond.

Local knowledge

We know Guildford, Godalming, Farnham, Haslemere and Cranleigh — the street patterns, the typical house types, and what planning officers usually look for on an extension or loft.

One point of contact

You are not chasing five different firms. Groundworks, brick, roof, carpentry and plumbing stay under Andy and Martin’s direction for the life of the job.

Character preserved

New brickwork is matched, roofs are quiet on the street, and openings are planned so light and structure work together — never against the original house.

Living with the build

Designed around how your household actually works

A beautiful extension means little if the programme forces you out of your kitchen for months without a plan. We talk early about temporary arrangements, access through the house, and how dust and deliveries will be managed.

Families with young children, home offices, or elderly relatives need a different site rhythm. We adjust sequencing so essential rooms stay usable wherever we can — and we are clear when that is not realistic.

Neighbours matter too. Quiet working hours, tidy frontages and clear updates keep the street calm while the rear of the house transforms. That is part of building well in Guildford and Godalming, not an optional extra.

When scaffolding goes up, deliveries arrive, and steels go in, you will already know the rhythm of the week. That clarity is what turns a disruptive few months into a manageable chapter — and leaves you with rooms you actually want to live in.

Materials & craft

Brick, timber and stone chosen to belong to the house

Matching brick, careful leadwork and joinery cut to the openings in front of us are not finishing touches — they are how an extension earns its place on a period street.

We source materials that weather honestly in Surrey rain: bricks that sit with the existing bond, tiles that pick up the original roof, and stone terraces that drain away from the building rather than towards it.

Inside, floors, stairs and door linings are set true so decoration and kitchen fit-outs land on geometry that already works. Outside, garden walls and steps are built to the same standard as the rooms they serve.

That discipline is what neighbours notice years later — not a dramatic opening day, but a house that still looks settled and quietly well made.

Across Surrey & beyond

Built for the streets we know — and the ones we travel to

Guildford and Godalming are home. The same team also works across Farnham, Haslemere, Cranleigh, Woking and into Hampshire and South West London.

Period terraces

Victorian and Edwardian houses need careful openings, matched brick and roofs that stay quiet on the street. We plan steels and junctions so new rooms feel original, not bolted on.

Family homes

Rear kitchens, side returns and loft bedrooms for growing households — sequenced so you can keep cooking, sleeping and working while the build moves forward.

Garden-led plots

Where the house meets the terrace matters as much as the glass. Levels, drainage and masonry are set so bi-folds open onto stone that stays dry through the first winter.

Wherever the site sits, you deal with Andy and Martin — not a rotating cast of subcontractors who never saw the first sketch. That continuity is how quality holds from foundations to snagging.

Selected spaces

How we work

From first conversation to handover

A calm, structured path keeps quality high and surprises low — for you and for the building.

Discuss

We visit the house, listen carefully and give practical advice before anyone talks about a start date. Budget, access and how you need to live during the works all come into the first conversation.

Plan

Structure, access, living arrangements and the character of the property shape a clear build programme. You always know who is leading the job and what happens next.

Build

Groundworks, brick, roof, carpentry and plumbing stay with one team so the site never loses its thread. Progress is coordinated, not left between separate contractors.

Hand over

Finishing is not rushed. Brick, joinery, roof details and external works are completed to the same standard as the parts you see every morning — then we walk the house with you.

Our promise

Built for the next twenty years, not just the next photograph

A good extension photographs well on day one. A great extension still feels quiet, dry and solid after winters of Surrey weather. That is the standard we hold ourselves to — foundations that drain, roofs that shed water, brick that matches, and finishes that can be maintained.

If you are planning a kitchen, a loft, a full renovation or simply a garden wall that needs to last, we would rather talk early than rush a quote later.

  • Honest advice on what the structure can and cannot do
  • Clear communication from first visit to final snag
  • Trades coordinated so you are never managing the site alone
  • Respect for period features and modern living needs
